A two-day training session on Managing Media Start-Up, organised by the Daily Trust Foundation under the Media Enterprise Lab (MEL), has brought together 21 journalists from various media houses in Kaduna, North-Central Nigeria. The training, which began today and funded by the MacArthur Foundation, aims to equip media professionals with the skills necessary to build a new career or start their own media ventures.

Top media practitioners with real-life experiences are facilitating the training, which covers practical aspects of media management and entrepreneurship. The areas covered include digital marketing, film and documentary production, book writing, editing, publishing, and multimedia skills for freelance journalism.
The Managing Media Start-Up workshop is designed to provide entrepreneurs and managers of media start-ups with the basic knowledge needed to manage their concerns effectively. With the media landscape facing shrinking revenue and uncertainty, the training will offer participants valuable tips on strategies to adopt or adapt to survive.
The Media Enterprise Lab (MEL) is a project aimed at deepening journalists’ understanding and skills in emerging areas of multimedia journalism, self-employment, freelance digital media practices, and business start-ups as a second career. The project is a direct response to the challenges journalists encounter when they lose their employment.
By equipping media professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Daily Trust Foundation is contributing to media sustainability in Nigeria. The training is expected to have a positive impact on the media industry, enabling participants to start and manage their own media ventures or navigate the changing media landscape with confidence.
