Multiple areas across Nigeria’s capital city will experience significant power disruptions for two weeks in January as the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) relocates major transmission lines along the Outer Southern Expressway.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced that the interruptions, scheduled from January 6 to 21, 2025, will affect several high-profile areas, including the American Embassy quarters, EFCC headquarters, and the National Stadium.
The infrastructure project involves relocating the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers, impacting power supply to key residential and commercial areas across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
Among the affected areas are major districts such as Lugbe, Airport Road, Games Village, and parts of Apo, as well as satellite towns including Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, and Keffi. The outages will also impact essential facilities like the Federal Medical Centre and prominent institutions like the American International School.
AEDC has assured customers that it is working to minimise downtime during the two weeks. The project represents a significant infrastructure adjustment in the capital city, affecting both government institutions and residential areas.
The power disruption will extend to suburban areas including parts of Kubwa, Bwari, Jahi, and Jabi, potentially affecting hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses in the greater Abuja area.
