President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Awakan, a member of the guild’s Ogun State chapter, to head the tourism agency.
In a statement signed by the guild’s National President, Dr. Emeka Rollas Ejezie, the organisation described the appointment as well-deserved, timely and symbolic.

The statement noted that the appointment comes as Nigeria’s creative and tourism industries enter a new phase with the reopening of the National Arts Theatre, adding that it signals the country’s cultural renaissance.
The Actors Guild commended President Tinubu’s support for the sector, citing the creation of the Ministry of Creative Economy, the launch of the Creative Economy Development Fund, skills development initiatives, intellectual property monetisation efforts, global partnerships, and talent export programs.
Dr. Rollas assured the president of the guild’s continued support for the administration’s agenda on creativity, culture and tourism.
