In a statement released today, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications for Air Peace, explained that the poor condition of the runway has been causing major disruptions to the airline’s flight schedule, necessitating the suspension.

“We regret to inform you that all flights scheduled to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, are temporarily suspended due to safety concerns of the Enugu airport runway,” Dr. Ndiulo stated. “The situation of the Enugu runway has been causing major disruptions to Air Peace flights, hence the decision to temporarily suspend further flights into this airport until further notice.”

The airline stated that safety takes priority over convenience, expressing hope that the suspension will allow the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) the opportunity to perform necessary repairs on the runway.

Passengers scheduled to fly into or out of Enugu will now be redirected to Asaba airport. The airline has apologised for any inconvenience the change might cause to travellers.
