The managing director and CEO of AkeyaTV Ltd. and Isu Media Limited, Odoh Diego Okenyodo, has urged the leadership of the National Association of Akweya Students (NAAS) to prioritise the establishment of enduring structures to ensure the organisation’s continuity for future generations.
Mr. Okenyodo made this call as the NAAS Executives, led by National President Ogbu Igwe Emmanuel, paid a courtesy visit to his office in Gwarimpa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Expressing his support for NAAS, Mr. Okenyodo emphasised the importance of learning from past experiences to ensure the organisation’s sustainability.
“I am pleased with the founding of NAAS. We also had an Akweya meeting when I was in school, and my counsel is going to be based on the experience that we did not sustain it as an organisation to pass it on to you. But you should do better to pass on the organisation to the next generation of Akweya students after you. That is why I am happy that you talked about building a secretariat,” he said.
Earlier, the National President of NAAS, Comrade Emmanuel Igwe, outlined the association’s objectives, which include seeking guidance from esteemed mentors such as Mr. Okenyodo. He also mentioned plans to establish a secretariat and conduct outreach programmes aimed at career guidance for students in primary and secondary schools, as well as organising periodic quiz competitions.
During their visit, NAAS officials were given a tour of the Akweyatv office facility and presented a large portrait of the MD of Akweyatv as a token of appreciation.
Mr. Okenyodo expressed his enthusiasm for the students’ initiatives and pledged financial and media support. Additionally, he announced a N50,000 incentive for any Akweya student whose final year research focuses on Akweya history, culture, or other aspects of Akweya.
