Speaking at the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) in Adabraka, Algeria’s Ambassador to Ghana, HE Mourad Louhaidia, outlined the impressive milestones achieved by Africa’s largest country by landmass since gaining independence in 1962.
The ambassador revealed that Algeria has been offering scholarships to African students for the past four decades while maintaining free education at all levels within its borders. This educational largesse, coupled with the nation’s unique debt-free status, positions Algeria as a model for sustainable development on the continent.
The revelation about Algeria’s debt-free status is particularly striking given the widespread debt challenges facing most African nations. While many countries struggle with mounting external obligations, Algeria has managed to maintain fiscal independence, a feat that has drawn admiration from continental organisations.
Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Dr. Wale Okediran, praised Algeria’s commitment to Pan-African unity during the public lecture. He commended the North African nation for its “excellent Pan-African culture, which has positively touched the lives of many Africans.”

The event, which served as both an independence celebration and a showcase of Algeria’s continental contributions, drew several distinguished guests, including AUCB Vice Chancellor Prof. Abeku Blankson, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Kemi Wale-Olaitan, and Registrar Dr. Juliana Owusu-Ansa.
Ambassador Louhaidia’s presentation highlighted Algeria’s dual focus on domestic development and continental solidarity, suggesting that the country’s approach to governance and diplomacy offers valuable lessons for other African nations seeking sustainable development paths.
