The commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra State, Patrick Agha Mba, has announced the ministry’s plans to partner with ABIG Nwankwo Foundation to create professional opportunities for the most promising talents discovered during the competition. The commissioner, representing Governor Charles Soludo, made this known at the grand finale of the ABIG Nwankwo Football Competition in Okija.
He also said that they would partner with the foundation to sponsor three standout players from the competition to join Solution FC’s Pro-League squad.
“This initiative perfectly aligns with the governor’s Public, Private Community Partnership (PPCP) vision,” said Agha Mba, noting that 98% of the state’s resources are in private hands. “The foundation’s efforts in youth development demonstrate the crucial role of private sector involvement in community growth.”
The tournament, which concluded with substantial cash prizes, including a three-million naira top prize, also attracted support from prominent business leaders, with entrepreneur Obi Cubana contributing two million naira to the project.
Beyond sports, the commissioner highlighted the state’s broader youth development initiatives, including the “1Youth 2Skills Solution” programme, which currently trains 509 youths in Ihiala Local Government Area, with 84 participants from Okija alone. He also mentioned the successful SID programme, which has empowered 23,000 youths with digital skills, and the upcoming “1 Million Digital Tribe” initiative.
Agha Mba also commended Okija Community for maintaining high security standards and supporting the government’s ‘Udo Ga-Achi’ programme, noting the impressive turnout at the event as evidence of the area’s peace and stability.
