The stunning developments reached their climax when American 13th seed Anisimova delivered a devastating blow to world number one Sabalenka’s championship dreams, grinding out a brutal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory in sweltering conditions on Centre Court. The triumph marked yet another Grand Slam heartbreak for Sabalenka, who has now suffered three consecutive major final defeats this year.

Amanda Anisimova ecstatic about her win

Anisimova’s victory was built on extraordinary resilience under pressure, saving 11 of 14 break points during a gruelling two-hour, 35-minute battle that left both players physically and emotionally drained. The 23-year-old converted her fourth match point to secure her maiden Grand Slam final appearance, immediately waving and blowing kisses to a crowd that had witnessed tennis theatre at its finest.

“This doesn’t feel real, I was absolutely dying out there,” Anisimova said afterwards, her disbelief evident. “I don’t know how I pulled it out. To come out on top today and be in the final of Wimbledon is so incredibly special.”

The result continues a nightmarish pattern for Sabalenka, who has reached three straight Grand Slam finals only to fall short each time, losing to Madison Keys in Australia and Coco Gauff in Paris before Friday’s Wimbledon elimination. The Belarusian’s inability to convert her dominance into major titles has become one of tennis’s most compelling storylines.

Meanwhile, Świątek’s presence in Saturday’s final represents perhaps an even more remarkable achievement. The former world number one, known globally as the ‘Queen of Clay’ for her four French Open titles in five years, has systematically dismantled the narrative that she cannot compete on grass courts.

Iga Świątek is off to the finals

The 24-year-old Polish star admitted her surprise at reaching the Wimbledon final, having struggled on grass throughout her career despite winning the junior title here in 2018. Her journey to SW19’s showpiece match represents her best Grand Slam result of the season, surpassing even her clay court performances.

“I’m not going to say I wouldn’t believe[I could reach the Wimbledon final. because I kind of believe, and I know in tennis a lot can happen,” Świątek explained. “But I guess I would have thought I would need to do a lot to be in this place and learn a lot.”

Saturday’s final between Anisimova and Swiatek promises to deliver one of the most unpredictable championship matches in recent Wimbledon history. Neither player was expected to reach this stage, yet both have demonstrated the form and mental fortitude to potentially claim their first Wimbledon title.

For Anisimova, it’s a chance to claim her first Grand Slam title. For Świątek, it represents an opportunity to prove her grass court evolution is complete and add Wimbledon to her growing collection of major trophies.
