A passenger plane carrying 176 people caught fire Tuesday night at South Korea’s Gimhae International Airport, with all occupants safely evacuated before firefighters extinguished the blaze.
According to the Transport Ministry, the Air Busan Airbus A321, bound for Hong Kong, was preparing for takeoff when fire broke out in its rear section. Passengers and crew used emergency slides to evacuate, with only three people initially sustaining minor injuries. The number has risen to seven.
Firefighters responded immediately and completely extinguished the fire by 11:31 p.m. (1315 GMT), approximately one hour after they arrived at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

On board the Air Busan flight were 169 passengers, six (6) crew members, and one engineer.
The incident occurred just one month after a tragic crash at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea, where a Jeju Air plane accident claimed 179 lives in one of the country’s worst aviation disasters.
Authorities have not yet determined what sparked the fire in the Airbus A321.
