Applications are now being accepted for the prestigious 2025 Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowship, offering journalists from developing regions a unique opportunity to cover the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
For more than six decades, the fellowship has provided journalists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania with direct access to United Nations proceedings, enabling them to report firsthand on global policymaking and international diplomacy.
Selected fellows will spend three months, from September to November 2025, at UN Headquarters in New York, covering critical global discussions on peace, security, climate change, human rights, and economic development. The program provides unparalleled access to UNGA meetings, press conferences, and high-level briefings with UN officials and world leaders.
The fellowship offers journalists a transformational opportunity to develop their international reporting skills through direct exposure to multilateral diplomacy while building professional networks with media colleagues from around the world.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must be full-time professional journalists working in print, television, radio, or online media with a minimum of five years of professional experience. Candidates must currently work for a media organisation actively covering international affairs and demonstrate a strong interest in UN-related topics.
The highly competitive selection process requires applicants to submit samples of recent work demonstrating high-quality reporting capabilities. Journalists from Ghana, Namibia, and Kashmir are not eligible for the 2025 cycle.
The application process requires candidates to complete an online form and submit supporting documentation in specified formats by the March 30, 2025 deadline at 11:59 PM EDT. Applicants are advised to review all eligibility criteria thoroughly and save draft applications periodically before final submission.
