The Norwegian Centre of Human Rights (NCHR) at the University of Oslo has announced that applications are now open for its annual Intensive Course in Human Rights, scheduled for September 1-5, 2025, in Oslo.
The five-day introductory programme aims to provide professionals with a comprehensive understanding of international human rights norms and protection systems at international, regional, and national levels.

The course brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds who share a common interest in advancing human rights principles in their work. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme offers participants a unique opportunity to engage with leading researchers while also learning from fellow professionals from around the world,” the call stated.
The course will emphasise collaborative learning through group work and knowledge exchange, with participants expected to review preparatory literature provided in advance. Past lecturers have included prominent human rights researchers and practitioners.
Selection criteria for the programme will prioritise job relevance, with organisers seeking a diverse mix of professionals, including civil servants, civil society representatives, legal practitioners, court officials, ombudspersons, and staff from international organisations. The centre aims to achieve geographical and gender balance among participants.
While the course carries a fee of 6,500 Norwegian Kroner (approximately $620), which covers lunches, coffee breaks, and two dinners, the centre offers competitive stipends for representatives of institutions with limited financial resources from low and middle-income countries.
These stipends will cover the course fee, international travel, and accommodation costs, with additional reimbursement available for visa and travel insurance expenses upon completion of the programme.
The application deadline is April 1, 2025. Interested candidates must submit a CV, and those applying for stipends must also include a one-page motivation letter explaining their reasons for applying and how the course relates to their professional work.
