Comrade Aremu was an uncompromising advocate for workers’ rights, social justice, and international solidarity. For decades, he played a leading role in shaping Nigeria’s left-wing and labour consciousness, inspiring generations of activists to link their struggles to a broader global movement for human liberation.

Builder of Labour and Solidarity Structures
Aremu was a founding figure in the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) and the Kolagbodi Memorial Foundation, both vital platforms that bridged labour unions and civil society groups.
He also established the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School (ACIS-M) to educate and mobilise young Nigerians in the praxis of revolutionary thought and action. Through ACIS-M, he mentored hundreds of youths who went on to become organisers, trade unionists, and community activists.
Beyond national borders, Comrade Aremu served as the Secretary of the Nigeria Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara and the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, emphasising the unity of struggles across continents.

In recognition of his internationalist work, the Government of Cuba awarded him the prestigious Friendship Medal, an honour reserved for outstanding global allies of the Cuban Revolution.
Tributes from Comrades and the Labour Family
In a statement signed by Owei Lakemfa on behalf of the Nigeria Labour Movement, Aremu was described as “one of the greatest revolutionaries and internationalists of our time” who “developed structures for collaboration and development of the Labour Movement.”

“The greatest honour we can give our fearless teacher and leader,” Lakemfa wrote, “is to continue in his footsteps and build a world based on social justice. Forward ever, backward never!”
Sadare Oladimeji Macaulay, writing on Facebook, mourned Aremu as “a dogged and committed revolutionary socialist fighter — a working people’s hero who lived a selfless life, fought, and conquered.”
Similarly, Adisa Jaji Azeez paid tribute to Aremu as “a leader, mentor, and teacher” who “understood that history is made through struggle — the struggle of the proletariat against exploitation and injustice.”
“Though his body rests,” Azeez added, “his ideas live on — in the picket lines, in the students’ protests, in the workers’ unions, and in every voice that rises against injustice.”
Final Resting Place
Comrade Aremu, affectionately known as “Fidelista Aremson”, will be laid to rest beside his mother on Monday, October 13, 2025, at No. 30, Kabiru Fatoye Street, opposite Alaka Field, Ijako Sugar Bus Stop, Ifo Road, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
