ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Dies Following Armed Robbery Incident

Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor, reporter and producer at ARISE News Channel, has died following an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, the television station announced on Monday.

The 29-year-old journalist passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, according to a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of the station’s management.

The Nigeria Police is investigating the incident, the statement said.

Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu was described by her employer as a vibrant voice who engaged and connected with viewers. She was also a trained lawyer.

The management and staff of ARISE News Channel described Maduagwu as a cherished member of the station’s family and a professional and supportive colleague who was a friend to many.

In the statement, the television station extended condolences to Maduagwu’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends and loved ones.

The station called for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the incident, stating that management and staff remain in shock over her death.
