Bauchi State has been recognised as the main implementer among recipient states of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, marking a notable success for agricultural resilience. The multimillion-dollar World Bank-funded effort aims to solve climate change-related concerns in agriculture and food security.
ACReSAL’s state coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, announced the achievement during a one-day capacity-building workshop in Bauchi aimed at combating land degradation. Highlighting Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s proactive attitude, Kabir highlighted that Bauchi is the only state where a Senior Special Adviser on ACReSAL has been appointed, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to the project’s goals.
“Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is the only governor who appointed a Senior Special Adviser on ACReSAL. This shows the degree of importance that the governor attaches to the activities of ACReSAL,” he said.
Despite being acknowledged for its achievements, Bauchi State continues to face high rates of soil degradation, posing substantial concerns for agricultural productivity and subsistence. Kabir stressed the critical necessity for local stakeholders to work together to address this crucial issue for the public’s well-being.
“On the other hand, Bauchi has one of the highest incidences, calling on the stakeholders at the local levels to join forces together to address the problem for the overall well-being of the people. The ACReSAL team in the state will embark on large-scale land restoration to reclaim valuable lands lost to land degradation,” Kabir said.
