The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing pharmaceutical education and supporting the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN). This pledge came during a courtesy visit by the PSN President, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Vice Chancellor’s office.
According to a release by Pharm. Lizette Ezenekwe, PSN National Publicity Secretary, Pharm. Murtala Isa Umah, Chairman of the Kano State PSN, introduced the PSN delegation and outlined the purpose of the visit, which was to appreciate the Vice Chancellor for his exceptional support to the Faculty of Pharmacy and to discuss future collaborations.
AkweyaTV learnt that the Vice Chancellor, recognised for being among the few in Nigeria to graduate PharmD students, was lauded for allocating a N250 million building to the Faculty of Pharmacy, a significant boost to pharmaceutical education at the university.

Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, recently elected as PSN President during the 97th Annual PSN Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, highlighted plans to host the PSN Annual Conference, tagged Dabo 2025, in Kano this November. He requested Bayero University’s partnership in hosting the event, including the use of the Convocation Arena and the soon-to-be-operational university hotel.
In response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, expressed gratitude for the PSN’s visit and pledged the university’s full support to ensure the success of Dabo 2025. He confirmed the Convocation Arena’s readiness to host 5,000 delegates, equipped with state-of-the-art ventilation and audiovisual facilities.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders from Kano State and executives of the PSN Kano State Chapter.

Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim’s election as PSN President at the 97th Annual National Conference marks a new chapter in the society’s leadership. The conference, held in November 2024, concluded with his landslide victory on 9th November, announced by Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, who is also the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), the institution that regulates and oversees pharmacy. The PSN President’s position was keenly contested by Dr Joel Adagadzu and Pharm. (Mrs) Ejiro Foyibo.
Pharm. Lizette Ezenekwe, PSN National Publicity Secretary, emphasised that the collaboration with Bayero University reflects the society’s commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance the pharmaceutical profession.
With the preparations for the 98th Annual National Conference, Dabo 2025, underway, the partnership between Bayero University and the PSN promises to be a landmark approach to hosting such event for the pharmacy profession in Nigeria.
