The BBC is calling for applications for its prestigious Komla Dumor Award, now in its 10th year, offering a unique opportunity for emerging African journalists to showcase their talents on a global platform.

The award, named after the late Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumor, aims to uncover and promote fresh journalistic talent across Africa. The winner will receive an exceptional three-month placement at BBC headquarters in London starting early September 2025.
Key details of the award include a fully funded three-month training programme in London, an opportunity to produce an African story for BBC World News, full support from BBC mentors and training academy, accommodation and travel expenses covered, and a basic journalist salary during the placement.
Applicants must be currently working journalists in Africa with excellent digital and social media journalism skills, strong broadcasting and presenting abilities, in-depth knowledge of African politics, culture, and current affairs, and fluency in English.
Candidates must submit their applications by 11:59 PM GMT on March 20, 2025. Eligibility requirements include currently living and working in Africa, holding or studying towards a degree, not being a current or former BBC staff member, and being able to obtain a UK visa.
