Hon. Angbo Kennedy Agbogo, representing Otukpo/Akpa Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, sent the appeal to the ministry on August 5, describing the federal road in Otukpo as being in a “deplorable state” with numerous potholes creating significant hazards for commuters. The lawmaker chairs the assembly’s committees on Works, Housing and Urban Development, as well as Power, Renewable Energy and Transport.

In his letter to the minister, Agbogo highlighted that the poor road conditions are preventing emergency vehicles from accessing areas quickly, potentially putting lives at risk. He said that the road serves as a major transportation artery for Otukpo and surrounding communities, making the repairs critical for the region’s connectivity and safety.

The assembly member specifically requested that China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), which is currently handling the Makurdi to Ninth Mile road stretch, be directed to extend their work to cover the problematic section between Otukpo Burnt Bricks and Enugu roundabout. He stated that this intervention would fall within the same road alignment already being managed by the Chinese construction firm.

Agbogo stressed the urgency of the repairs given the ongoing rainy season, which typically worsens road conditions across Nigeria. The legislator said that he was writing on behalf of all his constituents and other residents in Otukpo and surrounding areas who are experiencing “untold hardship” due to the road’s condition.

AkweyaTV notes that road repairs during the rainy season present additional challenges, but are often necessary to prevent further deterioration of already damaged surfaces.
