In a handwritten letter dated Sunday, August 24, 2025, and addressed to the Clerk of the House, Dajoh said his decision was taken “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.” He thanked his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as the first among equals and pledged to remain committed to his duties as legislator representing Gboko West State Constituency.

Following his resignation, the House convened an emergency sitting where Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga was elected as the new Speaker of the 10th Assembly. His emergence, however, comes against the backdrop of recent controversies in the Assembly. Just two days ago, Emberga, alongside three other lawmakers — Shimawua Emmanuel, Ikong Cyril Ijebe, and Abu Omoru — was suspended for three months by the House.

Speculations had earlier trailed the speakership race, with names such as Hon. Becky Orpin and Hon. Bemgba Alfred being mentioned as potential successors. The choice of Emberga, despite his recent suspension, is already raising eyebrows and fuelling political debates in the state. AkweyaTV had early written that the only choice for Governor Hyacinth Alia and his erstwhile political godfather, Senator George Akume, was to reconcile. It is unclear if this swift change of guard is a part of the deal that was speculated to have been brokered during Tinubu’s recent trip to Brazil.
Observers note that Dajoh’s resignation and the swift emergence of a new speaker reflect the heightened political intrigues in the Benue State House of Assembly. The coming days are expected to test the unity of the lawmakers and the stability of the legislative arm in the state.
