The announcement was officially made by Acting Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Simon Ubwa, during the 329th regular meeting of the university senate. Prof. John Onah’s promotion was specifically noted to be effective from October 1, 2024.

In addition to the four new professors, the department also celebrated the promotion of four faculty members to the rank of Associate Professor. However, their names were not disclosed in the announcement.

The Theatre Arts department communicated the news to members of SONTA (Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists), expressing delight at what they described as their “harvest of brand new professors.” The promotions represent a significant boost to the department’s academic credentials and research capacity.

The university, which has recently been renamed Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi, continues to strengthen its academic programmes through faculty development and promotion of qualified personnel to senior academic positions.

The promotions highlight the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and recognition of faculty achievements in their respective fields of specialisation within the performing arts and theatre studies.
