The vibrant sounds of reggae, the tantalising aromas of Caribbean cuisine, and the captivating allure of art are set to converge at the inaugural Camden Reggae Festival, slated for Sunday, May 11th, 2025. Organisers have announced a diverse roster of corporate sponsors eager to partner in delivering what promises to be a memorable cultural experience.
Spearheaded by HRH Douglas Mbonu, self-styled General Overseer of the Camden Reggae Club, the festival has garnered significant early support from a range of businesses. These include entertainment venues The Camden Reggae Club itself and The Republic@Camden, which will also serve as the festival’s location at 34 Crescent Off 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja.
Further bolstering the event are sponsors from various sectors, demonstrating a widespread enthusiasm for the festival’s vision. These include real estate developers Chamama Estate, travel agency Glo Travels, bathroom solutions provider Touchdown Bathrooms, construction firm November Cubes Limited, food and beverage company ICHUTNEY Ltd, culinary expert Chef H @Camden, financial services provider Uniglobe Markets, energy company Kazab Power and Gas Ltd, and petroleum product supplier Donje Betaoil Ltd.
In an official statement released on April 28th, HRH Douglas Mbonu expressed his delight at the burgeoning partnerships, stating, “These companies are willing to partner with us to deliver a fabulous festival. I am expecting others to express their interest once we reach out to them.” This proactive approach signals a commitment to ensuring the sponsors receive due recognition for their support.
Details about the festival itself are generating considerable excitement. Under the banner “ONE LOVE, ONE RHYTHM, ONE FESTIVAL: REGGAE, FOOD, AND ART CONVERGE”, attendees can look forward to an immersive cultural experience.
Food enthusiasts are in for a treat with a purely Caribbean culinary lineup featuring classics such as jerk chicken, curry goat, oxtail stew, fried plantains, callaloo, rice and peas, and fried dumplings.
Music will be a central pillar of the festival, with a diverse range of reggae genres showcased by a live band and two DJs promising to keep the energy high throughout the day and night. A unique segment titled “Reggae and Gist” will offer a platform to dive into the depth and meaning of reggae music.
Adding an artistic dimension to the event, talented artists are creating masterpieces inspired by movements such as the Harlem Renaissance, Expressionism, and Dadaism, with a particular focus on interpretations of the iconic Bob Marley. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase these unique artworks.
Doors to the Camden Reggae Festival will open at 12 noon on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at The Republic@Camden in Gwarimpa. With a strong lineup of sponsors and a promising programme, the festival is poised to become a highlight of Abuja’s cultural calendar. Organisers are encouraging reggae lovers, foodies, and art enthusiasts to mark their calendars for what is anticipated to be an unforgettable day.
