Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced Sunday that Cardoso would head Nigeria’s delegation after Finance Minister Wale Edun became indisposed and unable to attend the crucial global economic gathering.

According to the World Bank, the meetings will feature major policy sessions, including the Development Committee Plenary scheduled for October 16 and the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee gathering on October 17, both platforms where Nigeria’s economic priorities and concerns will be articulated.
Beyond these flagship sessions, the week-long meetings will include regional briefings, press conferences, and specialised policy forums addressing global development challenges, the world economy outlook, and financial market stability—all issues with direct implications for Nigeria’s economic trajectory.
Minister of State for Finance Doris Uzoka-Anite will accompany Cardoso as part of the Nigerian delegation, alongside other key government officials.
The Annual Meetings traditionally serve as crucial venues for developing nations like Nigeria to engage with multilateral lenders, negotiate financing arrangements, advocate for policy positions, and participate in shaping the global economic governance framework.
