The court found that Tang accepted money and valuables totalling more than 268 million yuan, approximately 37.5 million dollars, Xinhua reported.

According to the court’s statement cited by Xinhua, Tang exploited his various official positions between 2007 and 2024 to assist others in business operations, project contracting and job adjustments.

Tang came under investigation in May of last year when the Chinese Communist Party’s anti-graft watchdog announced he was being probed for suspected violations of discipline and law. He held the position of agriculture and rural affairs minister at that time.

Approximately four months after the investigation was announced, Tang was removed from his ministerial post.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by Chinese authorities to combat corruption and other suspected crimes involving senior government and military officials.

Analysts note that President Xi Jinping’s leadership has been working to strengthen discipline within party ranks and demonstrate the effectiveness of its anti-corruption campaigns to the public.
