As the cross-examination of Mr BBB, the second witness of the prosecution in the ongoing terrorism trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, continued today at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the defence tendered into evidence three videos and the report from the Lagos State EndSARS panel of inquiry.

Among the videos which were admitted into evidence and played before the court was that of the former Chief of Army Staff, Gen TY Dajuma, alleging that men of the Nigerian military collude with terrorists. He therefore called for communities to begin to protect themselves.

In another video, the DG of DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, is seen giving a speech. He refers to the Azare community in Bauchi State and the Tafawa Balewa community in Sokoto, noting how they mobilised and stopped the activities of Boko Haram and bandits in their respective communities.

“You don’t expect the army, police and other security forces to secure everywhere in Nigeria. It is impossible. We have to get the community to rise and defend themselves, and the time to do it is now.”

The third video was that of Imo State governor Hope Uzodimma, who said in the video that the killings in the state have nothing to do with IPOB. He referred to the Obgeruru community, where the APC ward chairman, woman leader, and youth leader were killed in their houses, but not a single PDP person had been killed, insinuating that the killings were politically sponsored.

Meanwhile, the presiding judge, Justice James Kolawole Omotosho, restated and maintained his position on a speedy trial.

In line with this, he expressed in strong terms his distaste for what he described as attempts to cause unnecessary delays in the ongoing trial.

“We cannot continue this way. Else, this matter will last another two or three years.”

He therefore mandated the prosecution to call all its witnesses within six days.

“If you fail to finish your witnesses within six days, I will deem your case closed,” he said.

He, however, noted that the six days are dependent on how long the defence takes for cross-examination.

He further stated that he would give the defence nine days to prove their case after the prosecution had closed theirs.

Awomolo then asked for an adjournment, as they did not come with their third witness.

The matter was adjourned to May 28 – 29 and June 6, 16, and 18 – 19.
