The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) awarded an Honourary Fellowship to Dr. Wale Okediran, the Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Dr. Wale Okediran.
Dr. Okediran, who now has the title of Hon. FNAL, received a congratulatory letter from the NAL President.
The NAL president, Prof. Sola Akinrinade, stated in his congratulatory letter to Dr. Wale that the Honourary Fellowship is the Academy’s highest honour for non-members who have made significant contributions to the arts and humanities in Nigeria.
Prof. Akinrinade mentioned that past and present Honourary Fellows include notable figures such as the late Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, HRH Alhaji Umaru Sanda Ndayako, late Etsu Nupe, Emir of Bida; HRM Omo n’Oba n’Edo Erediauwa, late Oba of Benin; late Mallam Adamu Ciroma, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, and Most Rev. Bishop Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah. He took joy in welcoming Okediran into this distinguished group of Nigerians.
He went on to say that he considered it “a thing of honour that Okediran will be joining this company of great Nigerians.”
A prolific author of 14 books, Dr. Okediran has had his works included in the curricula of several Nigerian universities. Notably, the film adaptation of his award-winning novel “Tenants of the House” recently had a successful run on the global streaming service Netflix.
Dr. Okediran is a medical doctor by qualification. He has an extensive resume that includes serving as President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and a term as a Member of Nigeria’s Parliament. He presently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Medical Sciences in Ondo, Nigeria.
