The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared 51-year-old Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu wanted in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
In a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, on their X platform, the anti-graft agency described Achimugu as an indigene of Ofu Local Government Area in Kogi State. Her last known address was identified as 6C, Rudolf Close, Maitama, Abuja.
The EFCC is urging anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact any of its offices nationwide or the nearest police station.
In a related development, the Commission has strongly refuted media reports suggesting political motivations behind its investigation of Achimugu. Some reports had claimed the case was linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“We wish to state unequivocally that the investigations of Achimugu have no correlation of any kind with the two political actors,” the EFCC statement read.
According to the Commission, the investigation into Achimugu’s activities began in 2022. While she had initially obtained a court injunction to prevent her arrest or investigation, the EFCC successfully challenged this order. On February 19, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja vacated the injunction.
The court ruled that “no court has the power to stop the investigative powers of the Police or EFCC or any agency established under our laws to investigate crimes when there is reasonable suspicion of commission of a crime or ample evidence of commission of an offence by a suspect.”
Additionally, the court upheld an interim order for the forfeiture of Achimugu’s assets suspected to be proceeds of crime, dismissing her lawsuit against the order as lacking merit.
The EFCC stated its non-partisan stance, stating, “The foregoing clearly establishes that the EFCC’s case against her has no immediate or remote nexus with any politician or any veiled or open reference to any political engagement or transaction.”
