A seven-man committee has been set up to bolster transparency and accountability in tax utilisation by a non-governmental organisation, the New Initiative for Social Development, in partnership with Situation Room and UK International Development to institute the “Tax for Service Group” committee in Ekiti State.
This seven-member committee, comprising representatives from diverse sectors including artisans, market women, and community leaders, is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the consistent payment and proper allocation of taxes within the state.

Addressing the media following a comprehensive stakeholders meeting in Ado Ekiti, the committee spokesperson, Pastor Akin Abimbola, emphasised “their pivotal role as advocates for taxpayers. Their primary objective is to diligently monitor government initiatives, guaranteeing that the funds generated from taxes are utilised judiciously for the benefit of society.”
Pastor Abimbola highlighted the committee’s commitment to conducting public awareness campaigns, aiming to educate the populace on the importance of fulfilling their tax obligations. Additionally, the committee intends to engage in regular dialogue with the government to ensure a transparent and effective channelling of tax revenue into developmental projects.
Assuring the public, Pastor Abimbola pledged that the committee would actively prevent instances of multiple taxation, a common issue that often dissuades individuals from fulfilling their tax obligations. He firmly stated that should the government fail to utilise tax revenue for societal development, the committee would not hesitate to bring attention to the matter.
