EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot announced Thursday in Lagos that the European Union (EU) has awarded a €300,000 grant to Eurocham Nigeria to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance trade relations.
The three-year grant aims to support Eurocham’s advocacy efforts and expand its membership, creating a more conducive business environment through strategic engagement with governments and stakeholders.

The ambassador emphasised the EU’s commitment to Nigeria, noting that the EU remains the country’s largest trading partner and a major source of foreign direct investment. The grant is part of broader efforts to deepen economic collaboration, including the EU Global Gateway Strategy.

“It bears repeating that the EU remains Nigeria’s largest trading partner and a major source of foreign direct investment and development financing,” he reiterated.
Key focus areas for future collaboration include infrastructure development, digital skills expansion, agriculture investments. renewable energy projects, vaccine manufacturing, and sustainable transportation.
“By building on past achievements, we create greater opportunities in key areas such as trade, investment, and infrastructure development,” he said.
Mignot further highlighted specific initiatives like the “Omi Eko” water transportation project and plans to deploy 90,000 km of fibre optic cables across Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigerian government.
