Gombe-based gospel reggae act, Ibi Dave, last Saturday, won the Africa Gospel Reggae Artist of the Year 2024 at a colourful ceremony in Abuja. Held at the Transcorp Hilton on 5th October 2024, the event saw many artists and Gospel ministers in attendance. The organisers, CLIMA, say the Clima Africa aims to be the Apex gospel awards in Africa, celebrating God’s kingdom and unity of Christ on the continent.
Ibi Dave, full name Ibrahim David Gajere, is a celebrated gospel reggae artist whose music radiates spiritual fervor and artistic innovation. Hailing from Filiya in Shongom Local Government, Gombe State, his journey into music began in childhood when he joined the church choir, sowing the seeds of a musical career that would later flourish across continents.

As the visionary leader of the No Pranks Music Band International, based in Gombe, Ibi Dave has carved a niche in the gospel music scene with his unique fusion of reggae rhythms and gospel messages. His discography is rich, featuring albums that span two decades, from the release of “Yabe Shi” in 2000 to his latest singles like “Spirit” and “Karatu” in 2024.
His talent and passion have earned him numerous accolades, including the Exousia Award for Best Reggae Art and Best Collaboration in 2016, and the Arewa Gospel Royal Ambassador title in 2021. His music transcends borders, with tours to the United States in 2017 and the United Kingdom in 2024, solidifying his international presence. He is also a regular headliner of the annual Rydeem of Light International Gospel Reggae Festival, which holds every last Saturday of November in Abuja, Nigeria.
Beyond music, Ibi Dave is also a certified accountant, balancing his creative passion with a professional career. He shares his life with his wife, Prisca Ibrahim, and their two children, Zion and Noah, as they continue to inspire faith and hope through his ministry of music.
