A Bauchi-based nonprofit organisation, Forward in Action for Education, Poverty, and Malnutrition (FAcE-PaM), has empowered more than 13,000 women from vulnerable farming households. The organisation’s acting Executive Director, Ms. Dabis Mwalike, made the news at a press event following the start of a three-day workshop on their strategic work plan.
Ms. Mwalike announced the organisation’s full support for these women, noting that over 13,000 women from vulnerable farmers’ households have been empowered.
She described the diverse help provided, which included seedlings, chickens, and goats, to increase nutritional diversity and maintain household food security.
According to her, “they were supported with seedlings, chickens, and goats to improve their dietary diversity and to also enable them to have different kinds of foods all the time.
“You know that the practice is to eat in the morning, afternoon, and evening, but with the provision of those seeds, they now have home gardens where they can get varieties to eat at the household level and sell some to get the income to solve other problems.”
Ms. Mwalike also mentioned the economic strengthening programmes facilitated by FAcE-PaM with the support of partners. These programmes have equipped households with tailoring machines and branding machines, empowering them to generate income and meet their children’s basic needs, such as education and healthcare.
“We have also, through household economic strengthening, provided, with the support of partners, tailoring machines and branding machines for the households to generate income and to be able to take care of their children’s basic needs, like materials for them to go to school or the hospital when the need arises,” she added.
