The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has ordered enhanced security measures across the territory in preparation for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, Democracy Day commemoration, and the Inspector General of Police Award Night.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Ajao Adewale issued the directive during a strategic security meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of Tactical Teams on Monday. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the development in a statement released in Abuja.
The security enhancement encompasses heightened visibility policing and sustained intelligence-led operations targeting criminal hideouts throughout the FCT. Adewale stated the need for comprehensive security coverage as the territory prepares to host senior police officers and dignitaries from across the country for the upcoming events.

The Commissioner ordered strategic positioning of officers at all major entry and exit points into the capital city, anticipating increased movement of high-profile visitors. Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams have been directed to conduct thorough sweeps of worship centres and recreational facilities ahead of the celebrations.
Intelligence-led raids on identified criminal hotspots, particularly areas known for illicit drug activities, will continue with emphasis on professional conduct. The operations aim to disrupt criminal networks while maintaining public trust through disciplined engagement.
Adewale issued strict warnings against extortion and unprofessional conduct, reminding officers that bail remains free and any deviation from this policy would result in disciplinary action. Officers have been instructed to maintain a smart appearance, demonstrate courtesy in public interactions, and avoid involvement in civil disputes, especially land-related matters.
The Commissioner prohibited unauthorised searching of mobile phones and emphasised that raids must not serve as cover for harassment or illegal financial demands. All personnel are expected to be camera-friendly, approachable, and uphold the force’s reputation while ensuring a swift response to distress calls.
The security plan includes a crackdown on vehicles using fake or fraudulently acquired diplomatic number plates. Divisional Police Officers have been tasked with initiating youth engagement programmes to strengthen community policing efforts and enhance crime prevention through local collaboration.
