Residents of the Federal Capital Territory are bracing for a fortnight without a regular water supply as the FCT Water Board commences critical rehabilitation work on key infrastructure facilities.
The FCT Water Board announced that water supply disruptions will affect both the city centre and surrounding areas due to ongoing rehabilitation works at the Lower Usuma Dam water treatment plants. The board, in a statement, alerted its customers that the interruption is necessary to facilitate crucial infrastructure improvements.
According to the water authority, the rehabilitation work will enable the connection of electro-mechanical equipment at the treatment plants, representing a major component of the comprehensive upgrade project.
The supply disruption began on Friday, May 30, and is scheduled to continue until Friday, June 13, spanning exactly two weeks.
“In view of this development, the FCT Water Board hereby appeals to the residents, particularly its customers, to kindly store water that may last them for this period, including an alternative supply to augment their need,” the statement advised.
The board acknowledged the inconvenience the disruption would cause residents, stating, “Any inconvenience that might be experienced by our customers is highly regretted.”
The rehabilitation work presents immediate challenges for millions of FCT residents who must now secure alternative water sources for the duration of the upgrade period.
