A suspected ammunition trafficker’s journey to a terrorist stronghold was cut short as military forces intercepted a significant weapons cache in Zamfara State.
Troops arrested 25-year-old Shamsiyya Ahadu and her accomplice, motorcyclist Ahmed Husaini, in Badarawa, Shinkafi Local Government Area, on December 28. The suspects were caught transporting 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines reportedly destined for notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji’s camp.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, said the arrest resulted from intelligence gathering about terrorist logistics movement between Kware and Badarawa communities. Operation Fansan Yamma troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West, set up a strategic roadblock that led to the capture.
Both suspects are now under investigation, according to military authorities.
The Joint Task Force praised local community support and encouraged continued cooperation in providing intelligence about wanted terrorists and their collaborators, noting that public assistance remains crucial to achieving their security objectives.
