The family has requested prayers for the former president, asking that Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, according to Islamic tradition.
Buhari served as the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 and was a retired Nigerian army major general who was the military head of state of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985.
The former president had a distinguished political career, having unsuccessfully contested for the presidency in 2003, 2007, and 2011 before his successful election in 2015.
