Governor, Police Commissioner Inspect RRS Base in Akwuzu

Anambra State Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu conducted a facility assessment tour of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Formation in Akwuzu on Saturday, accompanied by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security operations and police accountability.

During the inspection, CP Orutugu briefed the governor on the Command’s operational readiness and detailed efforts to recapture suspects who escaped after the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha 1 Constituency.

The commissioner announced a comprehensive reorganisation of the RRS unit, which includes implementing new protocols for suspect interviews and investigations. These reforms aim to strengthen evidence-gathering procedures and ensure greater transparency in police operations.

“The reorganisation is designed to improve the unit’s operational effectiveness in crime prevention and law enforcement,” the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a press statement. “By adopting a more structured and professional approach to handling suspects, the Command will strengthen evidence gathering and facilitate successful prosecutions.”

The visit highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the state government and police command in addressing security challenges across Anambra State. Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents.
