A non-governmental organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy, celebrated its 20th anniversary recently by unveiling two books and hosting widows as part of International Widows Day. The event took place at the prestigious Executive Hall of the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The event witnessed two significant activities in one: the launch of the book, Rise From the Ashes, and the premiere of a documentary, “AJADU”. The founder of the Helpline Foundation For The Needy, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, dedicated the book to widows who resiliently bear the pains of irreparable loss and carry on with strength and grace because she considers them the unsung heroines of strength and hope.
Dr. Jumai Ahmadu chronicled her journey into the world of charitable and community services for decades and how she has expressed her innermost yearnings through the platform, touching and transforming the lives of the vulnerable and needy in society.
In describing the book, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani, the former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who wrote the Foreword, said the book will truly provoke even the hardest of hearts to rethink and ask themselves how fair their relationships with widows have been. She assured that the book will encourage many widows to stand up to the reality of losing a life partner, put aside melancholy, gird their loins, and take full responsibility for their families, believing they can still find joy and live meaningfully.
Many stakeholders took turns to appreciate the efforts of Dr. Jumai Ahmadu and her team at the Helpline Foundation For The Needy, Abuja, and called for support through all means possible to encourage them to carry on with the good work they are doing.
At the event, the widows turned up en masse and could not hold back their joy as they testified of the positive impact that the Helpline Foundation is making on their lives. They prayed for the founder, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, as well as her partners and associates. The day was well-marked and delivered on the essence of the special day set aside by the United Nations.
