The Transforming Church in Ushafa reverberated with the unifying rhythms of reggae on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, as The Yes Band hosted their annual music programme, “The Gospel According to Reggae.” This year’s concert, a flagship event of One Song Music Factory, held particular significance as it coincided with the commemoration of the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.
The event proved to be a resounding success, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd from within the Ushafa community and beyond. According to reports from the organisers, “Ushafa was lit that night,” with attendees thoroughly enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and powerful music.
The stage came alive with performances from the host band, The Yes Band, comprising the duo of Pastors Yemi and Shola Olugbeminiyi, and the amazingly gifted Arrowz Band. While anticipation was high for an appearance by Mama Lucee, she was unfortunately absent. However, the energy remained electric with the presence of the renowned gospel reggae crooner from the Kristofarians, Emperor ElChiscendo, and the captivating Shattazion, both delivering memorable sets that kept the audience on their feet.
The passion for the music was palpable, with attendees reportedly wanting more even after two hours of pulsating reggae beats. One family, arriving after the programme had concluded, expressed their newfound appreciation and requested to be included in future invitations.
Speaking on the vision behind the event, a representative of The Yes Band emphasised its purpose: “to reach out to reggae lovers, reggae enthusiasts, and most especially Rastafarians, to let them see that redemption is only in Christ Jesus.”

A particularly poignant moment of the night was The Yes Band’s rendition of Bob Marley’s iconic “Redemption Song.” Yemi Olugbeminiyi, one half of The Yes Band, described the performance as deeply moving, stating that it “reached to the soul of the people in attendance.” He further articulated the concert’s core message, highlighting that attendees were reminded that “the way, the truth, and the life is Jesus Christ, nowhere else, nobody else is the Redeemer.”
The timing of the concert during the Easter period was also underscored as significant, further emphasising the message of redemption and hope central to the Christian faith. “The Gospel According to Reggae” successfully blended the unifying power of music with a profound spiritual message, leaving a lasting positive impact on the Ushafa community and all who attended.
