The Innocent Chukwuma Social Impact (ICSI) Chair has announced a call for applications for its Youth Fellowship programme, designed to nurture the next generation of social justice leaders in Nigeria. The programme, supported by the Ford Foundation and the Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre, honours the legacy of renowned human rights advocate Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma.
“This fellowship provides a platform for young leaders to enhance their managerial competence and develop innovative solutions to Nigeria’s justice system challenges,” the call reads.
The fellowship targets Nigerians aged 18 to 35 who are actively working to reform the country’s justice system through advocacy, activism, research, and social entrepreneurship. Selected fellows will receive guidance in leadership development and explore innovative approaches to expanding legal aid and access to justice.
Eligible candidates include:
- Human rights activists
- Justice administration professionals
- Legal aid providers
- Legal practitioners
- NGO officers focusing on social justice
- Civil society programme officers in judiciary administration
The programme focuses on building leadership skills, developing managerial competence, and fostering innovative problem-solving approaches to address challenges in Nigeria’s justice system. Fellows will explore new ways to enhance human rights protection, legal aid delivery, and access to justice.
Applications for the fellowship will remain open until November 30, 2024, through the programme’s website at icsi.lbs.edu.ng.
The initiative continues the work of Innocent Chukwuma, whose career was marked by significant contributions to human rights advocacy and social sector leadership in Nigeria.
