A fire broke out on Friday, causing damage to a section of the ground floor at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. This was contained in a press release by the university’s Director of Public Affairs Directorate, Auwalu Umar. The incident occurred at the Senate Building on the Samaru main campus around 4:15 p.m., where a small room housing an electrical distribution board was engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
The university said that no injuries or casualties occurred during the incident, although the distribution board and some outdated public address systems were destroyed. Thanks to the prompt response of the university’s firefighting team and security personnel, the situation was brought under control. Power has been restored to the affected building.
In response to the incident, Vice-Chancellor Professor Kabiru Bala, along with management staff and numerous sympathizers, visited the scene. The university management has initiated an investigation team to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak.
