The International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) has opened applications for its 2025 Human Rights Defender Advocacy Programme (HRDAP25), offering a unique hybrid training opportunity for experienced human rights advocates worldwide.
Combining innovative online learning with an intensive in-person experience in Geneva, the programme will bring together 16 carefully selected human rights defenders from diverse backgrounds and regions. Participants will embark on a rigorous 10-week journey designed to enhance their strategic engagement with international human rights mechanisms.
The hybrid training, scheduled from April to June 2025, will provide participants with unprecedented access to UN experts, diplomats, and fellow advocates. Defenders will dive deep into the intricacies of international human rights systems, developing sophisticated advocacy strategies to drive change in their local contexts.
“This programme is more than just training,” said an ISHR representative. “It’s about building a global network of human rights defenders who can leverage international platforms to create meaningful change.”
Targeting experienced advocates working on critical issues like environmental justice, equality, and accountability, the programme offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Participants will receive personalised coaching, participate in expert-led sessions, and gain firsthand experience navigating UN human rights processes.
The application window opens now and closes on 10 January 2025, with the programme featuring a mandatory online learning phase from 14 April to 8 June, followed by an intensive two-week residential session in Geneva from 10-20 June.
Interested candidates can apply through ISHR’s official website before the January deadline.
