The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has declared that the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be free of charge for disabled students.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced during a media interaction session to kick off the registration process for the 2024 UTME.

According to him, JAMB will provide free application paperwork to all categories of people living with disabilities as a sign of support. He also revealed that, as part of efforts to level the playing field for all applicants, audiobooks will henceforth be distributed to all blind candidates.

Oloyede explained that the availability of audiobooks was suggested at Nigeria’s inaugural National Conference on Equal Opportunity in Access to Higher Education. He went on to say that it was a digital adaptation of the classic reading book that would be available in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA and would be compatible with all devices that can stream audio records.

“This will help the blind candidates easily understand the subject or text, and diagrams will also be removed from blind candidates’ questions,” he added.
