Blackstock’s death was announced Thursday in a social media post by Starstruck Entertainment, the Nashville talent management company founded by his father, Narvel Blackstock, where Brandon served as an executive. The announcement came just one day after Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas residency dates, citing her ex-husband’s declining health and the need to support their two children.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Clarkson said in a Wednesday Instagram statement explaining the postponement of her August performances.

The Grammy and Daytime Emmy-winning entertainer had been scheduled to perform five shows in August as part of her “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions” residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The residency, originally set to begin in July but delayed due to Clarkson’s vocal issues, is scheduled to continue through November.

Blackstock and Clarkson began dating in 2012 and married in Tennessee the following year. Their relationship ended when Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The divorce proceedings were finalised after a lengthy legal battle.

During their marriage, Blackstock served as an executive producer on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” from 2019 to 2020, according to industry records. His professional career in talent management included representing country music star Blake Shelton, among other high-profile clients.

Blackstock came from an entertainment industry family. His father, Narvel, founded Starstruck Entertainment in 1988 and was previously married to country music star and actress Reba McEntire from 1989 to 2015. Brandon had two children from a previous marriage in addition to the two children he shared with Clarkson.

Despite their divorce, the former couple had been co-parenting their children.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
