The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Independence Bridge in its Marina-bound direction, effective April 1, as part of essential maintenance and rehabilitation works.
In a statement released Monday in Lagos, Federal Controller of Works Mrs. Olukorede Kesha said the bridge would remain closed until the end of May 2025, creating a two-month closure period.
“The closure will affect traffic travelling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2,” Kesha stated.
The controller advised motorists to plan alternative routes to avoid congestion during the repair period. No specific detour recommendations were provided in the initial announcement.
Kesha apologised for inconveniences the closure might cause and thanked the public for their understanding as the government works to ensure the safety and stability of the road infrastructure.
Authorities have not detailed the specific nature of the rehabilitation work or the total cost of the project.
