The LANGA Women Development Initiative, a non-governmental organisation located in Bauchi, has demanded that funds set aside for Bauchi State’s fight against tuberculosis (TB) be released as soon as possible.
The Executive Director of LANGA Women Development Initiative, Grace Maikudi, made the call at the WEIN conference hall in Bauchi during a one-day sensitisation forum for CSOs on tuberculosis. She explained that the non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organisation is dedicated to the empowerment and mobilisation of women, youth, and communities for the advancement of the country.
She pointed out how crucial it is for the government and civil society organisations (CSOs) to work together to fight the infectious disease and eradicate it properly.
“We have recently been selected by the USAID-funded SCALE-Project being implemented by Palladium as members of the cluster organisation known as TB Northern Nexus to carry out advocacy for increasing TB funding in Northern Nigeria, covering six states in the region,” she explained.
She went on to clarify that the SCALE TB Northern Project is made up of six cluster organisations – Okaha Women and Children Development Organisation (OWACDO) in Benue State; Kaneng Rwang Pam Foundation for Education Migration Awareness (KRP_FEMA) in Plateau State; LANGA Women Development Initiative (LWDI) in Bauchi State; NACWYCA in Nasarawa State; and Health Development Alternative Initiative (HDAI) in Kano State. The project intends to address the serious problems that tuberculosis poses in northern Nigeria.
She stressed that to successfully eradicate tuberculosis in Bauchi State and beyond, the government and CSOs must work together.
