The summit aims to transform the treatment and understanding of neurological conditions across the continent, where millions suffer from stroke, brain tumours, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological disorders, often accompanied by inadequate care, misdiagnosis, and social stigma.

Addressing Critical Healthcare Gaps

The summit addresses a pressing healthcare crisis where patients with neurological conditions frequently face barriers, including unaffordable treatment, limited access to therapy and rehabilitation, and widespread neglect. Many patients are forced to abandon treatment due to financial constraints or a lack of specialised care facilities.

“Too often, their stories are filled with pain, stigma, poverty, misdiagnosis, and hopelessness,” organisers stated in announcing the event. “This must change.”

Alignment with Global Health Initiatives

The ANHS aligns with the World Health Organization’s Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) 2022-2031, focusing on comprehensive neurological health system strengthening. The summit will target five key areas:

  • Raising public awareness about neurological conditions
  • Promoting early diagnosis and affordable care access
  • Training neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro nurses, and therapists
  • Strengthening data collection, research, and health policy
  • Developing neuro-ready hospitals and community rehabilitation centres

Event Details and Participation

The hybrid summit will begin at 9:00 AM and accommodate both in-person and virtual participation, broadening access for healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocates across Africa. Registration is available through the official website.

The organisers describe the event as “not just a summit” but “a wake-up call for Nigeria and Africa” to build a future where neurological conditions no longer result in preventable deaths or disabilities due to healthcare system failures.

The summit intends to address the neurological healthcare gap that affects millions across the African continent, where specialised care remains largely inaccessible to those who need it most.
