The Stage Is Yours
On December 28, 2024, the Community Hall in Otobi, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, came alive with talent, passion, and a celebration of music as Akweya TV Limited presented The Stage is Yours.
The competition, hosted by rising producer Young B, was a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent and connect with audiences. Among the many contestants who performed that night, one name stood out—Matosky Valiant, the newly crowned winner who will soon capture hearts with an inspiring story and his remarkable talent.
Who is Matosky Valiant?

Born Alfred Ingaba Mathias in Adim Akpa, Matosky’s roots run deep in the rich culture of Otobi, his father’s hometown, and Adim Akpa, his mother’s origin. A graduate of Akpa Community Secondary School’s 2021 set, Matosky faced financial challenges that prevented him from pursuing higher education. Despite these obstacles, his passion for music burned brightly.
For Matosky, music has always been a source of joy and expression. Inspired by the biblical King David, whose music brought solace and connection with God, Matosky has used his art to share stories and messages with the world. However, he faced skepticism from relatives, who doubted the value of a career in music. Winning The Stage is Yours changed that perception, earning him newfound respect and recognition.
The Journey to Victory
Matosky learned about the competition through consistent updates from Young B, who promoted the event relentlessly. Encouraged by friends and fuelled by a determination to either win or gain visibility as an artist, Matosky took to the stage in Otobi with hopes and nerves in equal measure.
“When my name was called, my adrenaline was through the roof,” Matosky recalled. “I had never won that kind of money before. It was surreal, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity.”
His heartfelt performance captivated the judges and the audience, ultimately earning him the top prize and solidifying his place as a rising star in the Akweya music scene.
A Message to Fellow Contestants
To those who didn’t win, Matosky shared words of encouragement: “Strive harder. Some thought they already had fame, but this competition is a reminder to keep pushing. Once bitten, twice shy—never give up.”
Matosky and Omah Lay, Don Jazzy
Matosky’s musical dreams are ambitious yet grounded. He admires artists like Omah Lay for their lyrical prowess and Don Jazzy for his humility and impactful career. Matosky aims to blend these qualities in his journey, aspiring to elevate Akweya music to greater heights.
“My dream is to see people from all ethnic groups—Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa—singing in the Akweya language,” Matosky shared. “I want to use my platform to promote our culture and bring pride to our land.”
Winning the competition has given Matosky both confidence and resources to take the next steps in his career. He plans to invest in a smartphone to stream and promote Akweya music more effectively. He remains committed to rehearsing and growing as an artist, determined to make his sleepless nights worth the effort.
Listening to him, Matosky Valiant’s victory at The Stage is Yours is just the beginning of what promises to be an inspiring journey in music and cultural advocacy.
