The Association of Urological Surgeons, Nigeria (NAUS) has issued an official statement addressing widespread claims about the relationship between frequent ejaculation and prostate cancer risk, warning that such connections remain scientifically unproven.
In a position statement released on December 16, 2024, the association expressed concern over the proliferation of potentially misleading information across social and mainstream media platforms regarding prostate cancer prevention methods.
“While there are studies suggesting a potential association between frequent ejaculation and reduced prostate cancer risk, the evidence is not yet conclusive,” the statement reads, noting the need for more comprehensive research to understand the relationship fully.
NAUS stressed that no firmly established means of prostate cancer prevention currently exists, maintaining that prostate cancer screening for early detection remains the standard medical approach.
The organisation urged the public to exercise caution when interpreting available evidence and warned against treating unproven methods as established preventive measures.
The statement, signed by NAUS President Prof. N.K. Dakum and Secretary General Prof. Muhammed Ahmed, aims to provide professional clarity amid growing public discussions about prostate cancer prevention methods.
