Dr. Christopher Ochanja Ngara attended the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, where he obtained a Diploma in Social Works and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Political Science with a Second Class Upper Division in 1997 and 2002, respectively.
He later enrolled and graduated with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies, in 2007 and later a PhD in Political Science with a bias on Legislature and Foreign Policy, in 2017, both from the Benue State University, Makurdi. Chris Ngara was a pioneer academic staff in the Department of Political Science, Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State.
After completing his NYSC in Port Harcourt, River State, Chris Ngara started his working career in 2004 when he joined the Benue State Civil Service under the Office of the Head of Service as Administrative Officer II and was later promoted to Administrative I and Senior Administrative Officer, respectively, before moving to the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State as a pioneer lecturer in the Department of Political Science. Chris Ngara left the Federal University Wukari and took a new role at the prestigious National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), National Assembly, Abuja.

Since he joined the Institute in 2013, Dr. Ngara has coordinated several national and international engagements for the Institute, including election observation in several general and off-season elections. He has also held various positions in the Institute including Officer Special Duties and Admission Officer at different times. He is currently an Editor of two flagship journals of the Institute – the NILDS Journal of Democratic Studies and the Legislative Journal of Security Analysis. His research interests include the Legislature and Foreign Policy, Women in Politics and Development, Election and Party Politics, Legislative Studies, State-Society Relations, and Politics and Nation Building. He has published several research articles in local, national, and international peer-reviewed journals.
Before his recent appointment, as the Acting Director, of the Department of Democracy and Governance by the Director General, Professor Abubakar Olarenwaju Sulaiman, Dr Ngara was a Senior Research Fellow with the Legislative Centre for Security Analysis, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), National Assembly, Abuja.
