Chairman of the Stakeholder Forum of NAPS, Benue Chapter, Comrade Innocent Okoh Egwu, outlined the devastating impact of the violence on local communities, noting that residents “can no longer move freely without the fear of abduction or attack.” The student leader noted that families have been left mourning, businesses are shutting down, and students are increasingly unable to pursue education in a safe environment.

According to the petition, the security challenges have disrupted daily life across Ogbadigbo Local Government Area, threatening the peace that communities have long cherished. The student organisation highlighted that the socio-economic impact is devastating, while the psychological trauma on residents is immeasurable.

The violence has particularly affected the education sector, with students facing increasing difficulties in safely accessing educational institutions. Business operations have also suffered significantly, with many enterprises forced to close due to security concerns.

NAPS has called on Governor Alia to urgently deploy enhanced security measures and strengthen intelligence-gathering capabilities in the affected area. The organisation also requested swift prosecution of offenders and active collaboration between security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to restore peace and order.

The student body expressed readiness to support government efforts in fostering peace and security, offering to mobilise youth for community vigilance and awareness campaigns.

Despite the urgent concerns raised, the student organisation commended Governor Alia for his “tireless commitment to the security, welfare, and socio-economic advancement of the people of Benue State.” The petition specifically acknowledged the governor’s recent interventions aimed at fostering peace and development across all local government areas.

The NAPS leadership positioned their appeal within the context of supporting existing government initiatives, reiterating their role as stakeholders and youth leaders committed to community development and security.

In concluding their petition, the student leaders reminded the Governor that “history will remember leaders not only for their achievements in development but for the lives they protect in times of peril.” The organisation expressed trust in Governor Alia’s proactive leadership to decisively address what they termed a pressing issue requiring immediate attention.
