In an official statement released yesterday, the ministry labelled as “false and misleading” a circulating press release titled “BEA: Education Minister receives committee’s report,” which claimed that Education Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa had inaugurated a committee overseeing the return of BEA scholars following the programme’s alleged cancellation.

“The Ministry categorically states that no such committee was inaugurated, and no reintegration plan for BEA scholars is in place,” the statement read. “The public is advised to disregard this misinformation in its entirety.”

The ministry clarified that while the federal government has indeed discontinued the BEA Scholarship Programme as announced on May 7, this decision reflects a strategic policy shift to strengthen domestic tertiary education. The government noted that all courses previously available through the BEA programme are now offered within Nigeria’s higher education institutions, often at higher quality standards.

Despite the programme’s discontinuation, the ministry emphasised that current BEA scholars will continue receiving full support, including tuition, stipends, and all approved entitlements, until they complete their studies.

The statement, signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, urged the public to rely exclusively on information from the ministry’s official communication channels to avoid misinformation.
