The writers participating in this edition are Joy Okwori, Nkechinyere Chukwu, and Lisa Olakunle, all from Nigeria. Beyond pursuing their literary works, the trio will engage with secondary school students in Iseyin as part of the residency’s community outreach programme.

The Ebedi International Writers Residency operates as a private initiative providing writers with a conducive environment to complete ongoing literary works at no cost. Since its establishment in 2010, the facility has welcomed 360 writers from 12 African countries, establishing itself as a significant hub for literary development on the continent.

This current class of female residents received sponsorship from the Above Whispers Foundation, an organisation established by prominent feminist thinker, gender specialist, policy advocate, and writer Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi. The foundation has been supporting female writers at Ebedi since 2023 through a continuing collaboration with the residency programme.

Erelu Fayemi, described as a long-standing friend of the Ebedi Residency, has facilitated the sponsorship of multiple female writers in various residences at the facility over the past two years. The partnership represents a significant investment in supporting women’s voices in African literature.

The residency programme continues to serve as an important platform for African writers seeking dedicated time and space to advance their literary projects while contributing to the local community through educational mentorship. Writers interested in applying for future residencies can contact the programme at derinjuwon@gmail.com for further information.
